The Rail Bureau at the New Mexico Department of Transportation is responsible for the following: * Responsible for ownership oversight of the rail lines owned by NMDOT, including infrastructure, right of way management, joint use management of tenant railroads, and coordination with NMDOT's rail operator for the New Mexico Rail Runner Express, Rio Metro Regional Transit District. * Administers and develops projects for the Federal Highway Administration\-funded Section 130 program to identify and eliminate hazards at railway\-highway crossings. * Provides Highway Program support in coordinating with state\-wide railroads where NMDOT highway projects intersect with railroad lines and railroad property. * Manages the State Railroad Safety Inspectors in partnership with the Federal Railroad Administration to inspect and enforce federal railroad safety regulations for state\-wide railroads. * Provides technical assistance with state\-wide railroad matters where requested.
